Study tested whether "(1) pools in the headwaters and midreaches of the Illinois River, AR, contain a diverse and abundant zooplankton community; (2) zooplankton is produced in the pools of the stream and is transported downstream throught the riffles; (3) zooplankters are removed from the stream water as it flows through the riffles; (4) zooplankton removal occurs through passive filtration by the physical substrate (bed load); and (5) zooplankters also are removed by filter feeding macroinvertebrates (larvae of Chemuatopsyche)."
