  • Reduce sediment and nutrient loading in all the federal reservoirs of the watershed: Grand Lake (OK), John Redmond Reservoir (KS), Marion Reservoir (KS), and Council Grove Lake (KS)

  • Reduce human health risk by controlling contamination by pathogens and associated indicators in the lake and all rivers, streams, and tributaries in the watershed

  • nhance and/or protect the watershed such that it meets all designated uses, protects endangered species, and preserves threatened ecosystems

Intermediate Outcomes

(Desired Management Changes/Best Practices - 5 to 10-yr timeframe)

  • Implementation of Low impact development/smart growth in the watershed

  • More conservation management systems and structural practices installed on cropland to reduce erosion and sediment yield

  • Implementation of more nutrient management planning and recordkeeping systems for efficient utilization of both commercial and organic fertilizers and manure on pastures and cropland in targeted areas

  • Improved livestock management to reduce overgrazing and direct impacts of livestock on streams (implementation of winter feeding facilities, alternate watering sources, livestock exclusion systems, etc.)

  • Streambank stabilization and riparian area restoration and protection

  • Improved management of stormwater runoff from suburban developments, small towns, and cities, using bioretention cells and other green technologies
